6-21-08 Summer has Arrived

Nature’s Umbrella – During the hot summer weather, give tender veggies a mid-day reprieve from the sun by planting them under the canopy of existing larger plants.  Mature Brussels sprouts, artichokes, and tree kale all can provide shade for delicate greens.  Plant your seeds or transplants just under the outer leaves of these towering beauties, and while they will still get plenty of sun, they will be less inclined to bolt to seed.
