1. November in the Garden
As we approach Thanksgiving, I feel so grateful for the garden and all that it provides. Despite the challenges this year with more-active-than-usual pests (click here to see how we combated them), the cool summer season and the occasional blight, the garden is still a steadfast friend. I am thankful every time I make popcorn that I grew in my own garden soil (still can't believe it actually worked!), and I feel so blessed to have access to fresh organic home grown vegetables just about any time of year.
In the garden, we've been picking rainbow chard and arugula. The spinach is almost ready to start snipping, but we still need a little more time for the kales to recover from the cutworm attack. We're nearly ready to pull out the tomato plants, but those green globes are just too enticing to toss. We're picking them with a touch of red and wrapping them individually in newspaper to finish ripening. I was delighted to see that it works!
